Lara Cassidy

Lara chose to do her undergraduate degree in Human Genetics and will graduate this November with first class honours. Her main research interests are population genetics and molecular evolution. These areas use the genetic code to reconstruct the evolutionary history of both our own species and that of all living things today. This is a truly fascinating area of genetic research and one Lara hopes to pursue a career in.

Lara is currently undertaking a PhD in Paleogenomics in the Bradley Lab at the Smurfit Institute of Genetics. Her research will focus on the genetic history of Ireland. This will involve sequencing DNA retrieved from the archaeological remains of ancient humans in Ireland and using this DNA to study the human population history of this island.
