John Birrane graduated from NUI Galway in 2012 with a first class honours degree in psychology. During his time as an undergraduate, he was awarded university scholarships for achieving an overall first class honours grade in each year of study. At the end of his second year, he was awarded a research scholarship by the Health Research Board of Ireland to work for eight weeks at NUI Galway. During that time, he worked on a project that examined the role of positive message framing and educational intervention in promoting the uptake of the HPV vaccine in a sample of female university students.
John spent the third year of his undergraduate degree studying biological psychology and neuroscience at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. John is currently in the first year of a graduate-entry medical programme at the University of Limerick.
