Analogue Girl in a Digital World: Afrofuturism, Neo-Soul and the Music of Erykah Badu
Jay is a Music graduate from the University of Leeds who is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Musicology (Popular Music and Jazz Studies) at the University of Edinburgh. With an emphasis on exploring music as culture, Jay’s research interests include expressions of disability within jazz practises; the use of hip-hop as a form of musical resistance by indigenous communities in West Mumbai; and the increasing use of the cultural aesthetic, Afrofuturism, by female and gender nonconforming R&B artists.
