Siobhan O’Connor

Siobhan completed her BSc in Nursing (2009-2013) and achieved a first class honours degree from University College Cork. As a mature student, she returned to UCC to pursue nursing after a career in the financial services industry as an accountant and financial analyst. Her previous undergraduate degree was a BSc Business Information Systems from UCC (2002-2004), which gave her a strong mix of business and information and communication technology (ICT) skills that she is now applying in nursing and healthcare.

During her studies at UCC, she was among a multidisciplinary team of students who received 1st prize in an international competition IBM/IEEE Smarter Planet Challenge: Students Projects Changing the World. Siobhan is now undertaking a doctoral qualification between UCC and Lund University, Sweden, in the area of health informatics. Her PhD research will investigate the application of mobile health tools as a means of building public health information systems in developing world settings specifically Malawi, Africa.
