Sarah was born and raised in Yakima, Washington USA. Following high school, she spent a year in Lyon, France as a Rotary Exchange Student where she served as an ambassador for her district. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in addition to her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Prior to attending nursing school at the University of Pennsylvania, she spent two years teaching mathematics in East Oakland, California as a corps member in Teach for America. It was this experience that inspired her research regarding community violence.
Sarah is currently pursuing a Masters degree at the University of Pennsylvania to be an adult and geriatric nurse practitioner. In addition to her academic interests, she is also an avid runner and singer. While in college, she competed in athletics, in which she ran the Steeple Chase, and sang in the choir.
