Rónán O’Connor

Rónán is a final year double major in Economics and Sociology in Trinity College Dublin where he is studying on an academic scholarship awarded to him in his second year. He has a strong interest in cross-disciplinary research in Economics and Sociology which led him to spend a summer working with a PhD Economics student studying literary circles.
Rónán has had a strong interest in debating since he began secondary school. He was Captain of the Irish World Schools Debate Team in Cape Town, South Africa for the 2012 World Schools Debating Championships. More recently he was a Winner of the Irish Times Debate 2015 and subsequently toured the USA for a month as part of a showcase of Irish debating through exhibition debates in American Universities.
Since 2010 Rónán has volunteered for the European Youth Parliament which offers young Europeans a platform to discuss and debate European issues through a professional parliamentary process. He has led teams on topics varying from the impending European pension deficits to the formation of the Single Supervisory Mechanism.
