Philomena Ní Fhlatharta

What are you up to now?
I am currently undertaking an MA in Modern Irish at NUI Galway the completion date is the end of August so as yet I have not had much time to enjoy the summer.  My thesis is also based in folklore just as the minor dissertation for which I received the award.

What did winning mean to you?
Winning the Undergraduate Award for Irish meant a lot to me personally, and to my family. I was raised in the Connemara gaeltacht and was aware of our rich cultural heritage from a young age, though I must say that returning to college as a mature student has given me an opportunity to explore, on a broader basis, the folklore and history of our nation. Winning the UA has given me confidence in my research capabilities, and the opportunity to share my passion for the Irish language and heritage with others.
