Katharine Griffith

Katharine completed a BSc in Furniture Design and Manufacture in Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, Letterfrack in 2012, for which she was awarded Student of the Year. She then went on to complete the Honours level of the same course, which she completed this year (2013). Throughout her time in Letterfrack her interest in design grew and developed along with her technical and making skills. Her interests include the use of traditional making and design skills, as well as understanding and exploiting the use of new computer-aided and CNC technologies. Her interests lie in using design to provide a better quality of life for people, and addressing issues that arise in our everyday living environment.

In the future Katharine would like to work in the area of product design and development, specialising in furniture. She also hopes to continue with the research that she started in her project ‘Design and Manufacture of Ergonomic Primary School Furniture’, either through working within a company or through a Masters Degree.
